Canisius is off to its worst league start in four years after losing to Atlantic Hockey

rival Holy Cross for the second straight day Sunday at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.

Holy Cross goaltender Thomas Tysowsky, an Amherst native who attended Williamsville South,

made 27 saves in the 3-2 decision. On Saturday, Tysowsky, a freshman, stopped 24 shots in

another 3-2 win that kicked off league play for both schools.

Dave Cianfrini and Pat Kenney each scored for the Griffs. Goaltender Dan Morrison stopped

23 shots.

Kenney opened the scoring but Holy Cross scored twice before the first period ended and

once in the second period. Cianfrini scored at 12:17 of the third period.

This is the first time the Golden Griffins (1-5-0, 0-2-0 AH) have lost their first two

league games since the start of the 2005-06 season.

Canisius is tied with RIT (0-5-0, 0-2-0) for ninth place in the league while Holy Cross

(2-2-0, 2-0-0) is tied with Air Force (2-4-0, 2-2-0) for first. Air Force will play Canisius

in a weekend series next Saturday and Sunday at Buffalo State.

"I liked our game and I liked our effort [Sunday]," said Canisius head coach Dave Smith.

"We just had a couple bad bounces and [a] couple huge mistakes that proved to be very costly."

"We can come back from this and it starts from a good week of practice," said senior Josh

Heidinger. "It is a long year and we would have liked for better results this weekend but we

will regroup."
