Buffalo State junior Cory Cox captured All-America honors for the second straight season in the long jump during the opening day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at the University of Nebraska.
Cox recorded a leap of 7.11 meters to take fourth. He also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash.
In Division I track news, UB throwing coach Jim Garnham was named Northeast Region Indoor Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year for the second straight season. It’s the fourth time he’s received the honor. This season, two of his proteges – Jonathan Jones (shot put) and Evan Palmer (weight throw) – won Mid-American Conference titles.
BASEBALL: Canisius’ eight-game winning streak ended with a 20-11 loss at Miami (Ohio) in a non-conference game in Oxford.
Christ Conley reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 2 for 2 with two runs scored, two walks and an HBP. The Griffs (10-4) bolted to a 5-0 lead but Miami (5-9) scored the next 17 runs.
Canisius returns to action against host Dayton at the Flyer Classic at noon today. It also has a rematch against the RedHawks today in Dayton as part of the tournament.
