Three Big 4 basketball players will be playing in NBA summer leagues, still hoping to impress NBA scouts after going undrafted on Thursday night. Canisius guard Billy Baron will play on the Chicago Bulls summer league team, UB forward Javon McCrea will play for the Dallas Mavericks and Canisius forward Josh Heath will be on the Detroit Pistons roster.
Chicago was the first of 10 teams Baron worked out for ahead of Thursday night’s draft. The summer league for Baron and McCrea will be based in Las Vegas July 11-21 while Heath is headed to the Southwest Airlines Orlando Summer League that will run from July 5-11.
Baron was an Associated Press All-America honorable mention. He ranked fourth in the nation in scoring average with 24.1 points per game. He was just the fourth Griff in the program’s 110-year history to score more than 1,400 career points.
He was the school’s first finalist for the Bob Cousy Award.
McCrea was the 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, and was first team all-conference three times. McCrea averaged 18.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game last season.
