UB safety honored

Sophomore strong safety Davonte Shannon became the first modern-era University at Buffalo player to be named to the ECAC Football Bowl Subdivision All-Star team. Shannon, who finished the season with 121 tackles, second best on the team was one of four defensive backs named along with Anthony Scirotto of Penn State, Darius Butler of Connecticut and Courtney Greene of Rutgers. UB was ranked 10th in the final ECAC Lambert Cup poll. Penn State was ranked first.

UB head coach Turner Gill has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Football Coaches Association at the 2009 AFCA Convention in Nashville, Tenn. He joins a group of distinguished head coaches who guide the organization.
