Six Bulls get All-MAC honors
Six University at Buffalo football players were named to the All-Mid-American Conference team Wednesday.
The Bulls had a school-record three players named to the first team, led by sophomore strong safety Davonte Shannon, who was a first-team selection for the second straight year. Shannon joins tailback James Starks (Niagara Falls) and wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt (St. Joe’s) on the first team.
Right guard Jeff Niedermier and free safety Mike Newton were named to the second team, while linebacker Justin Winters was named to the third team.
The six All-MAC selections were second only to last year’s eight honorees for the Bulls. Ball State’s Brady Hoke was named Coach of the Year, while Cardinals quarterback Nate Davis was named Offensive Player of the Year and free safety Sean Baker the Freshman of the Year.
Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Northern Illinois’ Larry English, who also earned the Vern Smith Leadership Award, while Central Michigan’s Antonio Brown was the Special Teams Player of the Year.
