Cory Conacher scored on a penalty shot with 5:36 left to give Canisius a 4-3 victory over Mercyhurst at the Buffalo State Ice Arena and a sweep of its two-game weekend home-and-home series against the Lakers on Saturday night. Canisius (4-6, 3-3 AH) was awarded the penalty shot when a Mercyhurst defenseman closed his hand over the puck in the crease.

Josh Heidinger and Vince Scarsella (St. Francis) scored to give Canisius a 2-0 first period lead. Mercyhurst tied it early in the third before Carl Hudson put the Griffs back in front. Mercyhurst tied it again before Conacher's game-winner. Goalie Dan Morrison made 26 saves for Canisius

Senior forward Dan Bulley scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway off a long-bouncing goal kick by Nick Fetterman with 8 seconds left in the second overtime. The Broncos tallied the first goal of the game in the 86th minute but UB answered that in just over a minute when Alex Marrello sent a backside pass to Mike Unwin, who fired a shot past the Broncos' goalkeeper Casey Aubil.

UB used a 28-10 run early in the first half and held on in the second half for an 82-67 win over Daemen, in an exhibition game Saturday night at Alumni Arena. The Bulls got off to a quick start as sophomore transfer Zach Filzen hit six of his seven three-pointers in the first half, giving the Bulls an early 20-point lead. Filzen had 18 points at the half, 21 overall. Junior Max Boudreau added 15. The Bulls will begin the regular season at 5:30 p.m. next Sunday against Vermont in Alumni Arena.
