Niagara suspends Armstrong
A Niagara University basketball player charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following a fight in a Main Street bar on Sunday will miss the opening game of the season Nov. 13.
NU athletic officials announced the one-game suspension against Christopher M. Armstrong, 20, of Queens, on Wednesday and added that further penalties are pending the outcome of court proceedings.
Armstrong, 20, fought with a bouncer at Whiskey River and was subdued by police, who said he was intoxicated. Armstrong, the nephew of former head coach Jack Armstrong, is a junior guard in his third season and will now miss the opening game against Auburn in Alabama.
During arraignment Monday in Niagara Falls City Court, Armstrong pleaded not guilty and was released on $600 bail.
