College report: Niagara eliminated

Niagara fell 30 minutes short of qualifying for the NCAA tournament, falling to Loyola, 3-2, in the MAAC tournament final. The game was played in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Brittany Benthin (Medina) and Adriana Gallo tallied for the Purple Eagles, who had a 2-0 lead at halftime. Benthin, goalie Ashleigh Bowers and Chiara Greco were all named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team.

• Senior forward Sylvnia Kowalski and senior defender Kathleen DiPasquale of Canisius were voted onto the MAAC All-Tournament team. Kowalski had the Golden Griffins' lone goal against top-seeded Loyola. DiPasquale started every game she played this season. Canisius finished 13-4-3, the most wins in a season in program history.

Men's soccer

Canisius senior Alan McGreal has been named MAAC offensive player of the week, while freshman Sam margetts was picked as the conference's rookie of the week. McGreal had a point in all three of the Golden Griffins' games, including a game-winning goal against Marist. Margetts recorded his first three collegiate points over the weekend.

Men's hockey

Niagara freshman Marc Zanette has been named CHA rookie of the week. He had a short-handed goal and an assist this weekend in games against Cornell and Colgate.
