Bona vs. South Florida scouting report
St. Bonaventure (23-10): The Bonnies have won based on their defense, which is giving up just 57.6 points a game and holding opponents to 37.4 percent from the field. Bona has dug itself out of 14- point halftime deficits against West Virginia and Wisconsin to advance in the WNIT. Second-half play has been impressive but the Bonnies need a better start to the game. They could ride the wave of the home crowd, which likely will set another attendance record. The Bonnies are 13-2 in the Reilly Center and continue to be led offensively by Dana Mitchell (15.5 ppg) and Katelyn Murray (11.5 ppg).
South Florida (24-10): The Bulls are one of the best offensive teams in the country, averaging 77.9 points with four players in double figures, led by senior guard Shantia Grace (14.6 ppg). They create a lot of their offense off a fast-pace transition game, including forcing teams into an average of 20.4 turnovers a game (while averaging just 15.5 themselves). The Bulls average 10.7 steals and 5.7 blocks.
Outlook: If the game becomes a track meet, South Florida will win in a runaway. If the Bonnies can control pace and make South Florida play a half-court game, there’s as good a chance as any that Bona could pull off another upset win. The Bulls have a size and strength advantage in the low post and Bona will have to do a better job of taking care of the ball to have a chance to advance to the WNIT Final Four.
