Hall leads Bona down the stretch

OLEAN — The students had filled their designated section well before tip-off, dressed in their Bona brown T-shirts, chanting throughout warm-ups while the pep band played on. And you had to wonder, given the history of a basketball program without a winning season since 2001-02, if they were displaying true faith or merely showing a willingness to suspend judgment. College report: Bonnies advance

St. Bonaventure earned an historic men's soccer win Thursday night in Kingston, R.I., beating Fordham, 1-0, in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. College report: Niagara men's hockey hangs tough, but falls to UMass

Host Niagara took a 1-0 lead against No. 19 Massachusetts and entered the third period tied, 2-2, but the Minutemen scored twice within three minutes to win, 4-2, and keep the Purple Eagles from their first victory of the season. Andrew Nicholson had 29 points and eight rebounds to lead St. Bonaventure to an 82-74 win over Mansfield in an exhibition game at the Reilly Center on Friday night. College Report: Niagara picked to finish second in the MAAC

Niagara was picked to finish second and Canisius was tabbed for seventh by the coaches in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason men's basketball poll. Also, Niagara's Bilal Benn and Tyrone Lewis were named to the preseason first-team all-league team, while Canisius' Frank Turner and Greg Logins were named to the third team. Siena was the choice to win its third consecutive league title. The Saints received nine of 10 first-place votes and 99 points overall. Niagara received 87 points and Rider 82 and the only other first-place vote.
