Teal Bunbury's goal early in the first half was all Akron scored but was also all the nation's No. 1 team needed in a 1-0 win over the University at Buffalo in a Mid-American Conference game.

The Zips (14-0, 5-0) have outscored their opponents this year, 37-2, and improved to 18-1-1 all-time against the Bulls (5-9, 0-4).

St. Bonaventure dropped 1-0 verdict at Temple in the Atlantic 10 despite holding a 20-7 advantage in shots. Augustin Coly's goal early in the second half along with the goaltending of Bret Mollon proved to be the difference.

Women's soccer

After a 4-0 start in the Atlantic 10, St. Bonaventure (8-8, 5-2) has dropped two of its last three conference games, including Friday's 1-0 loss at George Washington (5-7-4, 2-4-2). Sierra Smidinger's first-half goal was the winner.

"We're playing against teams that are either facing elimination from the conference tournament or playing for a top six position in the standings," Bona coach Manoj Khettry said. "None of these remaining games are easy. ... We simply have to want it more than our opponent."

Niagara dropped a 2-0 decision to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference guest Fairfield (9-8-2, 4-2-2).

The Purple Eagles (8-8-1, 4-4) fell from fourth place into sixth in the conference standings with the defeat with one game left in the regular season. The top six seeds earn a bye into the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Seeds seven through 10 have to play first-round games Thursday.

NU hosts fifth-place Iona (7-10-1, 4-3) on Sunday.
