NU nips Orange on ice
The Niagara University women’s hockey team defeated Syracuse, 3-2, in the College Hockey America quarterfinals Thursday night in Erie, Pa.
Ashley Riggs and Alison Malty scored third-period goals to help the Purple Eagles (6-24-5) rally from a 2-1 deficit and earn a date with top seed and host Mercyhurst (27-5) this afternoon at 3.
Malty’s goal at 17:10 from Autumn Stuntz and Melanie Mills was the game winner. Mary McKinnon also scored for Niagara, which is 4-30-2 all-time against Mercyhurst.
Riggs was named first-team All-CHA for Niagara, while Jocey Kleiber, a defenseman, earned a spot on the all-rookie team.
