Chris Barnes doubled in the 10th frame while Ryan Ciminelli drew the 7-10 split Saturday and the Cheektowaga bowler suffered a hear-breaking 230-212 loss in the final match of the PBA Viper Championship Saturday night in the World Series of Bowling V in Las Vegas, Nev.
Ciminelli, who was seeking the second PBA Tour title of his career, enjoyed a double-digit lead most of the way until the 10th. He was still in front after each bowler struck in the eighth and ninth frames, but Ciminelli left the door wide open with his open in the 10th frame. Barnes capitalized by delivering two strikes to take the lead.
Ciminelli was the top qualifier earlier in the week to earn his place in the final match of the stepladder. Barnes, who qualified second advanced to the final by defeating Stuart Williams of England, 200-171, closing the match with four straight strikes. Williams won the first stepladder match over Jason Belmonte of Australia, 203-194.
