The New Era Diamond Girls 10U softball team won its first tournament of the year last weekend at The Rock Sports Park in Chester, N.Y., where the team went 6-0 and outscored opponents 26-6. The girls won the championship game, 1-0, on a delayed steal of home with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team is made up of 10 year old girls from Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania. The players are Samantha Weber, Katie Sheeler, Abby Wolfe, Emmalee Sheeler, Shay Ciezki, Jessica Roman, Marissa Calloway, Katie Fahey, Kayli Rabent, Francesca Morris, Kaydence Messinger and Rachael Feurst. The coaches are Jackie Fusco Morris, Jim Dudish, Jordan Dudish.
FISHING: The fourth annual Hooked on the Tonawandas fishing tournament will be held June 28-29, in conjunction with New York’s Free Fishing Weekend. No license is required. More than $2,500 in cash prizes will be awarded to the anglers catching the three largest fish by weight in the following classes: smallmouth/largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, carp, perch and bullhead/channel cat. Competition is restricted to Erie Canal waters from the mouth of the Niagara River to the Tonawanda City line. Registration is $15; contact Kurt at 628-1247 or email@example.com.
