The Buffalo Regals squirt minor team earned quite the tournament victory over the weekend as it captured the championship of its respective division at the prestigious Wayne Gretzky International Tournament in Brantford, Ont.

The Regals went 2-0-1 in round-robin play to earn a spot in the playoff round of the tournament where they defeated London (Ont.), 2-1, in the quarterfinals, Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets, 5-3, in the semifinals and the Uxbridge Stars, 3-1, in the final.

The tournament consisted of 116 teams from the United States, Canada, Finland and Norway, divided into 14 divisions. The Regals were the only American team to win a championship.

Carson Schlager (seven goals) and Nathan Stachowiak (four goals) each had 10 points to lead the Regals, while goalies Christian Kohr (five games, 1.96 goals-against average) and Michael Georger (one game, 1.88 GAA) combined to hold teams to under two goals per game.

Other members of the team include Grady O’Hara, Brendan Cox, Matthew Bajer, Aaron Johnson, Colton Clendening, Miles Brown, Trevor Hasley, Mason Besant, Trevor Ward, Ethan Iozzia, Kamren Lopez, Jordon Osmanski, head coach Jim Ward and assistant coaches Kevin Kohr, Dave Stachowiak and Daryl Besant.
