BASEBALL: The Northtown Tides, a 16-U boys travel team, will hold pitching/player tryouts from 1-2 p.m. Saturday on pitching mound No. 1 at Sports Performance Park located within the Eastern Hills Mall, 4545 Transit Road, Williamsville. Only qualified pitchers/players who have participated in tournament or travel level baseball are encouraged to attend. BOWLING: The 14th annual Scratch Team event will be held at 6 p.m. on January 25 at Byllye Lanes, 290 Seaward Avenue, Bradford, Pa. Five-person teams are welcome to enter at a cost of $200 (cash 1 in 6/24-team max). A $2,000 prize will be awarded to first place, based on 24 entries. A $20 deposit is required to hold a spot. RUNNING: A meeting of area race directors will be held on at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kenmore Knights of Columbus, 1530 Kenmore Ave. The session will offer suggestions and presentations about how to stage a road race. Call John Grandits (634-5052) or Bob Kaminski (833-7596).

SOFTBALL: The West Seneca Magic Navy 14-U team is looking for a pitcher or pitcher/infielder to complete their team for the 2014 season. Winter practices are held indoors 2-3 times per week. The team will play in the Niagara Frontier Girls Softball Association and also a minimum of 5-6 tournaments.
