Lionell Thompson’s debut for Main Events in a nationally televised fight Saturday night proved to be a success.
Thompson scored a unanimous 99-90 triumph over Ryan Coyne in the 10-round co-featured bout at the Resorts International Hotel & Casinbo, Superstar Theatre in Atlantic City, N.J.
According to various tweets from media covering the fight, Thompson looked very sharp during the victory in which he bloodied Coyne (21-2), who entered the fight unranked by the World Boxing Council but ranked No. 9 by the World Boxing Association. Thompson (15-2, 9 KOs), who’s ranked 20th by the WBC but unranked by the WBA, has now won his last three fights -- with the latest two perhaps the most impressive of his pro career. He beat former amateur champion and blue-chip prospect Yathomas Riley back in May, a win that vaulted Thompson into the top 25 and helped earn a promotional deal with Main Events.
