There will be a Buffalo flavor on Mike Tyson’s first card as a boxing promoter tonight in Verona, after all.
Southpaw Guillermo Sanchez was added to the six-fight card at Turning Stone Casino as a fill-in opponent Wednesday to face unbeaten Alexei Collado in a 10-round featherweight.
Collado, a Cuban who now lives in Miami, Fla., brings a 16-0 record with 15 KOs into the fight against Sanchez, a once promising young fighter, who began his career 11-0 and won two minor titles - including the WBC youth world lightweight title. However, Sanchez (13-9-1, 5 KOs) has lost his last seven fights, including five via unanimous decision since winning that WBC title April 22, 2011 over Eddie Ramirez.
The card begins at 7 p.m. with the ESPN2 broadcast portion of the show airing at 9 p.m. It’s not guaranteed Sanchez’s fight will be televised.
The main event features IBF junior lightweight champion Argenis Mendez (21-2,11 KOs) making his first title defense against Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KOs). The card’s co-feature bout has Claudio Marrero (14-0, 11 KOs) facing Jesus Andres Cueller (22-1, 18 KOs) for the interim WBA world featherweight title.
Tickets for the card can be purchased at Turning Stone box office by calling (315) 361-7469 or www.Ticketmaster.com.
