Four champions were crowned in the sub-novice division of the New York State Golden Gloves Tournament last weekend, while five others advanced to championship bouts in the tourney which concludes next month at The Tralf Music Hall.
Ultimate Fitness’ Jarred Nosewicz won the 152-pound title with a 3-0 decision over Austin Phearsdrof.
Two Syracuse-area boxers prevent counterparts of UB Boxing Club from earning titles as William Russell beat Tyler Russ at 132 pounds and Yenser Perez beat Ryan NiCastro at 165, both by 3-0 scores. Valerie Aspaas of Victory Gym won via walkover in 141-pound women’s bout.
In the open division, Northwest Buffalo Community Center’s Akmed Aliyev advanced to the 141-pound final with a 3-0 decision over Vinnie Denierio of Elmira. Westside’s Daniel DeJesus fell in the 132-pound semifinal to Sequan Felton of Rochester St. Martin, 2-1.
In novice semifinals, Joe Taylor of WNY MMA advanced at 201 pounds via second-round TKO of Bryce Stalhman of Seneca Nation.
The tournament concludes April 26 with open division champions advancing to the national tournament May 12-17 in Las Vegas.
