The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team, overachievers during the regular season, look to extend their success into the postseason.
The Bonnies open postseason play tonight when they take on La Salle in an Atlantic-10 Tournament quarterfinal being played in the Richmond Coliseum at 5 p.m. La Salle advanced Thursday night with a 65-56 win over Saint Louis.
The Bonnies (22-9 overall, 11-5 A-10) were picked to finish ninth in the A-10 preseason coaches’ poll and went on to tie for second. They beat six of the eight teams picked ahead of them.
Their 11 conference wins, including 8-0 at home, marks the second time in program history the team has won 10 or more conference games.
•Head coach Jim Crowley, named the 2013-14 A-10 Coach of the Year by his peers, has now earned 20 plus wins in five of the last six seasons.
St. Bonaventure currently ranks 60th in the RPI. Its ending rank in 2012-13 was 218th.
SBU is the No. 2 most improved field goal team in the nation this season, as it is shooting nearly eight percent better from the floor this season than last.
The Bonnies finished the regular season 12-1 at home.
