Matthew Wright, who has averaged 19.0 points and 3.2 assists over the last 10 games, looks to lead the No. 9 seed St. Bonaventure basketball team to a win today over No. 8 La Salle in the opening of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The game tips off at noon in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn (SNY).
The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 1 seed Saint Louis at noon on Friday.
For the season, Wright ranks No. 5 in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 16.7 points per game and has scored in double figures 23 times. He surpassed 1,000 career points in the game against Saint Joseph’s on March 1.
The Bonnies (16-14) and La Salle (15-15) split the season series. In the most recent matchup Feb. 26 in Philadelphia, the Explorers won, 75-67. The Bonnies won the first meeting in January, 66-51. La Salle leads the overall series, 15-12.
La Salle won at Saint Joseph’s on Sunday to finish the regular season with three wins in its last four games.
La Salle’s top players are forwards Jerrell Wright (12.9 points, 6.6 rebounds per game) and Steve Zack (8.7 ppg), who led the A-10 in rebounding with a 9.5 average.
