Bisons to play two today
Persistent rain that continued past the scheduled starting time caused the postponement of Friday night’s scheduled game between the Buffalo Bisons and Toledo Mud Hens at Coca-Coca Field.
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today (5:35 p. m., Radio 1520 AM).
The teams will play two seven- inning games with the gates opening at 5 p. m. The scheduled postgame fireworks and Home Run Derby will be held as planned.
Friday’s scheduled Bisons Family Camp Out in the ballpark was rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 14, after a 7:35 p. m. game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Jonathon Niese (4-6, 4.12 ERA) and Nelson Figueroa (5-4, 2.50) will pitch for the Bisons in today’s twin bill against Toledo right-handers Chris Lambert (4-6, 2.09) and Eddie Bonine (1.4, 4.99).
“If we have to play a doubleheader I like our chances with Niese and Figueroa the way they both have been throwing,” said Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell.
In his last six starts, Niese, a left-hander, has allowed only four earned runs in 43x innings, an 0.83 ERA. He has 40 strikeouts and 10 walks over that span.
Figueroa, who represented the Bisons in Wednesday’s Triple- A All-Star Game and pitched one scoreless inning, has won his last five decisions after an 0-4 start.
