SYRACUSE - The Buffalo Bisons were stymied by Syracuse lefthander Aaron Laffey in a 7-0 loss Sunday before 2,768 at NTB Bank Stadium. Laffey held the Herd to three hits, one single in each of the first three innings, on the way to his 10th win. The former Bison struck out three and walked just one.

Buffalo entered the game having won 10 of its last 12, but could not muster any offense in this one. The Bisons were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded five on base. It was the Herd’s ninth shutout loss of the season.

Bison starter Liam Hendricks (6-1) suffered his first loss. He was touched for eight hits over six innings and five runs, four earned. He saw his league-best 1.82 ERA entering the game swell to 2.13.

Syracuse leadoff batter Emmanuel Burriss had four of his team’s 13 hits and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. The Chiefs increased their lead in the International League North Division to 6 games.

Game Three of the four-game series is tonight (7 p.m., Radio 1520 AM). Top Blue Jays prospect Aaron Sanchez (0-1, 4.73) is the scheduled starter for the Herd against Zach Kroenske (1-0, 4.76). The Bisons won the series opener on Saturday night, 7-6, in 13 innings.

The Blue Jays announced that lefthander Brett Cecil will join the Bisons today as part of a major league rehab assignment. He has been on the Jays disabled list since June 19 with a strained groin. With Toronto this year he is 0-3 with a 3.76 ERA.
