MOOSIC, Pa. – The Buffalo Bisons erupted for seven runs on eight hits in the 10th inning in an 11-4 victory over Lehigh Valley Monday. Jonathan Diaz, batting .148 from the No. 9 spot, singled to drive in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning. The win snapped the Herd’s seven-game losing streak.
Diaz was working with a 1-2 count when he drilled a solid single to left to score Brad Glenn, who drew a walk to lead off the frame. The Herd sent 11 batters to the plate in the 10th. It was the first time they scored more than three runs in seven games, and the most runs they’ve scored since June 13.
A.J. Jimenez and Brett Wallace had three hits each as the Herd finished with 16 hits.
Buffalo rallied to tie the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Mike Nickeas before blowing it open in the 10th.
Bison starter Liam Hendricks went seven innings, but did not figure in the decision. He did strike out a season-high nine. Steve Delabar (1-2) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get the win. The bullpen kept the Iron Pigs off the board from the fifth inning on.
Liz is scheduled to start for the Herd tonight (7 p.m., Radio 1520 AM) against the IronPigs. He originally joined the Herd on June 3-10. Bibens-Dirkx has been with the Bisons on four different occasions. Combined he is 2-1 with a 3.31 ERA in three starts and 13 relief appearances.
