LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Striking again after there were two outs, the Buffalo Bisons scored four runs in the top of the ninth and defeated the Gwinnett Braves, 7-3, Monday night to run their winning streak to seven games. It was the opener of a four-game series and eight-game Southern trip for the Herd.
In their four-game sweep of Charlotte over the weekend, the Bisons produced nine of their 18 runs after two were out. Monday, they were even better. All seven Buffalo runs came after two were out.
International League Batter of the Week Kevin Pillar went 3 for 3 including a triple in the seventh inning that drove home the tying run.
In the ninth with first base open, the Braves walked Pillar intentionally rather than pitch to him. Gwinnett reliever Atahualpa Severino then walked Dan Johnson to force home the go-ahead run before Matt Tuiasosopo lined a double to clear the bases.
Left-hand pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith, who began the season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, joined the Herd from the Double-A New Hampshire. Rowland-Smith, 31, was signed by Toronto on April 29.
