Despite Twitter, T. O.’s not bitter about home drama
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens says he is not bothered because the owners of a home in Orchard Park aren’t interested in renting to him.
Owens, who is searching for a place to live this season, posted the following message on his Twitter page Tuesday night about the situation:
“sittin here trippin about residents@1 DEER RUN wn’t rent 2 me b/c they said they dn’t want any drama n their neighborhood!! LOL!!! Wow!!”
The 4,002-square-foot, six-bedroom house at 1 Deer Run Court is for sale or rent. The listed sale price is $489,387, while the rent is $2,950 per month.
Asked about the housing snub after organized team activities on Wednesday, Owens appeared to be more amused than offended.
“We had a couple of spots that we were supposed to go look at, and everybody knows my security guard, Pablo, and the realtor went to 1 Deer Run and I got the report that they didn’t want me to rent that spot because of the added attention I may bring,” he said. “In her words she said, ‘drama.’ Other than that, I’m still looking. I thought it was funny.
“I didn’t think too much of it. It is what it is. You’re going to have one out of the bunch every now and then. They may not be a Bills fan, and then again they may not be a T. O. fan. I didn’t take it to heart.”
Owens admitted that he does bring some drama wherever he goes, but indicated that he’s never gotten complaints about being a bad neighbor.
“Anywhere I go there’s always a little extra added attention,” he said with a grin. “That just comes with the territory. But I don’t think anywhere I’ve lived there’s ever been a problem. Other than probably the one time they came to Philly and I had a little situation there. But other than that it wasn’t a big deal, and my neighbors never complained. I’ve been pretty much a good neighbor, quiet neighbor for the most part.”
The incident in Philadelphia Owens referred to occurred in 2005 when he spoke with the media while doing shirtless sit-ups in his driveway and later held a news conference on his lawn while serving a suspension from the Eagles. This was the opening stages of what became an ugly divorce between Owens and the team.
After being contacted by several media outlets, the owners of the property at 1 Deer Run have said they haven’t closed the door on Owens moving in, but apparently he has.
“It’s easy to change your story after the fact,” he said.
Owens added that he’s received a lot of support since his tweet, including from some people who would be happy to have him as a house guest.
“I do appreciate that a lot of people have invited me to move into their homes so at least I know I’d have somewhere to stay,” he said.
