Lynch, Peters, Mitchell rest injuries

Story tools:

The Buffalo Bills were without three starters in Wednesday’s practice as they prepared to meet the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Running back Marshawn Lynch, left tackle Jason Peters and linebacker Kawika Mitchell all sat out, as did receiver Roscoe Parrish and linebacker Teddy Lehman.

Lynch has a sore shoulder that kept him on the bench for part of the second half of Sunday’s game at Denver. Peters has had a sore knee for several weeks, and it kept him out of the Denver game. Mitchell and Parrish also have sore knees. Mitchell hurt his in the Denver game. Parrish injured his in practice last Friday but was able to play against the Broncos. Peters was limited in practice last Wednesday and Friday and missed last Thursday’s workout.

Coach Dick Jauron expressed cautious optimism that Peters and Lynch would be able to play against the Patriots.

Meanwhile, cornerback Jabari Greer, out the past five games with a sprained knee, was limited. Lehman has a pulled groin.

Patriots star defensive end Richard Seymour is questionable for the game. Seymour hurt his lower back against Arizona on Sunday and could not finish the game. He missed practice both Tuesday and Wednesday. However, given the importance of the game to the Pats, he can’t be ruled out.

The Patriots have today off. If Seymour can’t play, he would be replaced by veteran Jarvis Green. Safety James Sanders has missed the past two games with a rib injury. He did not practice. Neither did tackle Matt Light (shoulder). Limited were cornerback Ellis Hobbs (shoulder), linebacker Gary Guyton (ankle), safety Lewis Sanders (shoulder) and defensive end Ty Warren (groin).

The Pats are on their third starter this season at left cornerback. Rookie Jonathan Wilhite, a fourth-round pick out of Auburn, has taken over the past three games for Deltha O’Neal, who started the first meeting against the Bills. O’Neal now is the nickel back.

Lynch and defensive tackle Marcus Stroud were third alternates for the Pro Bowl. . . . Sunday’s game is sold out. Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf will broadcast the game for CBS.

The Bills are seeking snow shovelers to work shifts that run 7 a. m. to 3:30 p. m. and 3:30 p. m. to midnight today, Friday and Saturday. Interested participants must be at least 16 years old and must bring two forms of identification. Pay is $10 per hour. Participants should enter the stadium grounds from Lot D off of Abbott Road and proceed to Gate 7. For information, call 818-1425.
