FOURTH QUARTER
Worst for last
Could the Bills turn it around after 45 minutes of ugly offensive football? No. What followed was another 15 minutes of even uglier football.
The Bills failed to convert on a fourth-and-2 play at the Niners’ 7.
Rian Lindell missed a field goal from 40 yards.
The Bills went backward instead of forward on their final drive, which began with 1:47 left. Mike the Great: Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, the Niners head coach, on his team rebounding from a blowout loss to Dallas: “We have guys banged up right and left. On Thanksgiving guys are thinking about the turkey and practice was a little sloppy. … I told them at the beginning of the week, this week is about character. It’s all about character. We’re 3-8 and you look at it and think, ‘What do we have to play for?’ But in my mind we’ve got a lot to play for.”
Andy the Great: Niners punter Andy Lee, the All-Pro last year, proved his class. Backed up near his own goal line twice in the second half, he responded with punts of 57 and 58 yards before hitting another for 51 yards.
