How have you adjusted to Buffalo?: “It’s been cool. The people here are real nice. There is not a lot that’s different from where I’m from (Waycross, Ga.). Out here in Orchard Park it’s pretty rural, just like down south. There are not any tall buildings and a lot of wildlife. Actually, I’ve seen more wildlife walking around here, stuff like deer, skunks and chipmunks, than I see back home. I hear about all the snow they get up here, so I’m looking really forward to that.”
Speak for yourself: “Hey, I don’t see any snow where I’m from, so I’m excited about it.”
What do you do in your spare time?: “I don’t go out too much except maybe go hang out with teammates. I like my video games. I also do stuff in the community, like working with Kids Escaping Drugs.”
What has that been like?:
“Just being able to help kids at risk has been a great experience. There are a lot of problems that these kids are dealing with. But it’s important for them to know that this is not the end for them. They have a long life ahead of them, so I want to offer as much encouragement as I can. I use my story about how I got to this point. It wasn’t easy for me, but I made it and that’s the message I want to give to kids.”
