Reed rested and ready

It doesn’t look like Josh Reed lost much when he missed 10 days of practice after suffering a lower back injury. In fact, he looks as good as ever. And while he may be a veteran, he feels he still needs training camp to prepare for the season.

“I think I need it just to stay in rhythm because I don’t want to lose any steps,” he said on Monday on his second day back to practice.

He said he his eager to return to the lineup for the Bills’ next preseason game, Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but he’s been told to be patient. Physically, Reed said he’s fine.

“I think I am a little hesitant just because I was out so long but I feel pretty good,” he said. “It is almost like it really never bothered me. I know that I still have to watch it and just like it happened the first time, I know it can just flare up again.”

‘D’ veterans take charge

Not a practice goes by that you don’t hear some veteran defenders shouting encouragement or giving pointers to younger players.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said it is a positive sign that the vets have bought into what the

coaches are teaching them. “It’s fun to see,” Fewell said.

“The guys are expressing that to their younger teammates because they know what’s expected. It’s fun to hear them correct each other, coach each other and talk to each other. We’re

working in harmony with each other right now.”

Sideline views

The Bills worked primarily on red zone offense and defense on

Monday. ... Receiver Roscoe Parrish (knee) sat out the afternoon session, as did rookie receiver James Hardy (hamstring). Neither injury is considered serious. Rookie cornerback Kennard Cox was limited again

with a sore ankle and rode the stationary bike at the end of practice. ... Safety Donte Whitner was not at camp for a second straight day due to a personal issue, while offensive tackle Matt Murphy attended practice wearing a sling on his injured left shoulder.

Quote of the Day

“Confident, he is just such a smart player. He knows that he has to get back there and get the ball out in a certain amount of time and he is doing that. Whether it is taking off and running, which he does very well, or if he has to throw it away he finds open guys.” — Receiver Josh Reed on quarterback Trent Edwards.
