Bills notebook: Detroit athletic field dedicated to Wilson
A new athletic field at a Boys & Girls Club in the inner city of Detroit was dedicated Thursday in honor of Bills owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr.
Wilson donated a significant portion of the $300,000 that was raised to construct the field, which is part of the NFL’s Youth Education Towns program. Over the past 15 years, the NFL has constructed youth centers and athletic facilities in Super Bowl host cities. The facilities are designed to help youngsters succeed by providing educational assistance, job training, technical instruction, life-skills development and recreational outlets.
“I’ve always admired the work done by Boys & Girls Clubs,” Wilson said. “They deliver profound benefits for young people and their communities by providing a positive place for them where they can have fun, achieve their goals and become outstanding citizens of tomorrow.”

The Bills enjoyed a strong day of ticket sales Thursday. There was a line of about 300 people at the stadium ticket office at 9 a. m. It was the first day in which season-ticket holders were allowed to purchase extra seats for individual games. Each person was allowed to buy up to six extra tickets per game. Season-ticket sales already are over 50,000. It’s possible there could be very few tickets left, if any, by the time individual-game tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the general public sometime in July. The season opener against Seattle and the Monday night game against Cleveland are likely to sell out quickly. The presale continues today. On Saturday, season-ticket holders may purchase an unlimited number of individual game tickets in person or by phone.

Punter Brian Moorman and guard Derrick Dockery will participate in “NFL Broadcast Boot Camp” on June 16-19 in Mount Laurel, N. J. The program is run by the NFL Broadcasting Department and gives players instruction and hands-on work in a wide variety of broadcasting jobs. Morman and Dockery and former Bill Eric Moulds will be among 20 current and former NFL players participating. . . . Tackle Jason Peters, who wants a new contract, remains the only Bill who has missed all 10 of the team’s voluntary spring practices. . . . Backup running back Fred Jackson continues to look good running and catching passes during workouts. During 11-on-11 drills Thursday, he caught a short pass and took it for what would have been a long touchdown if the team had been running live, contact drills. . . . The Bills will host a blood drive with the American Red Cross from 11 a. m. to 7 p. m. today in the Paul Maguire Club at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
