Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will be honored at the 13th Call to Courage Awards breakfast, hosted by former Buffalo Bills great Frank Reich, on April 5 at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo.
Davis, an eight-year NFL veteran, has come back from three torn ligament injuries to his right knee. He’s the only known NFL player to have three anterior cruciate ligament surgeries and return. After missing much of the 2009 to 2011 seasons, he came back to enjoy outstanding campaigns the past two years.
Reich annually honors an NFL player who exemplifies outstanding character, commitment and leadership on and off the field.
Davis was a finalist for the 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year award, and he founded the Thomas Davis “Defending Dreams Foundation,” which supports underprivileged children across the country.
Reich also will give out the High School Call to Courage Award, given to a Western New York student-athlete who excels on and off the field. Also appearing at the breakfast will be former Bills tight end Kevin Everett, who recovered from a life-threatening spinal cord injury in 2007.
The event, sponsored by Athletes in Action, runs 9 to 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 559-1800.
