Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller practiced fully Friday on his sore ankle and is listed as probable for Sunday’s game in Miami. Look for Spiller to play at least a slightly bigger role against the Dolphins than he did against Cincinnati last week.
Spiller played only 17 plays against the Bengals. But he got 12 touches and produced 66 yards. Fred Jackson played 50 plays against Cleveland and 39 against the Bengals.
Meanwhile, all the other Bills on the injury report are probable except for EJ Manuel, who is out. That includes Stevie Johnson (back), Mario Williams (hip), Kyle Williams (illness), Ron Brooks (foot), Thad Lewis (foot) and Manny Lawson (hamstring).
Miami’s top pass rusher, Cameron Wake, will be ready to participate fully Sunday. Wake has been battling a sore knee and was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday. He has played only about 35 percent of the defensive snaps this season. But he was a full participant Friday and is listed as probable for the game.
Dolphins starting inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe is doubtful with a shoulder injury. He hasn’t practiced all week. Brandon Gibson, Miami’s second leading receiver, is questionable with a sore hip and he was limited Friday. Look for him to have a good chance of playing. Starting cornerback Dimitri Patterson is questionable with a sore groin. He will be a game-time decision. Other starters on the Miami injury list: linebacker Koa Misi (ankle), center Mike Pouncey (ankle) and safety Chris Clemons (knee).
Miami tight end Charles Clay is a former sixth-round draft pick who is not well known outside of hard-core fans. Clay, however, is a threat, and the Bills are well aware of him.
“He’s been making some plays,” said Bills safety Da’Norris Searcy. “They do a variety of things with him. He’s a versatile player. He went vertical on the Colts and on Baltimore. You’ve got to keep him in mind.”
Clay has 23 catches, two behind team leader Brian Hartline, and he plays about 85 percent of the snaps in Miami’s offense. Clay, 6-foot-3 and 255, split time between fullback and tight end at the University of Tulsa. He scored 38 touchdowns in 53 games. In his rookie season in 2011, he had a 46-yard catch and a touchdown against the Bills in Miami.
