Jets running back Thomas Jones quietly has produced a quality NFL career. The 10th-year veteran went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season in the first half by rushing for 58 yards in the first two quarters.
It’s the fifth straight season Jones has hit 1,000 yards rushing and the third straight year he has done it for New York since being acquired from the Chicago Bears. Jones had 109 yards to boost his career total to 8,883 yards, good for 29th on the all-time list. Jones, a seventh overall draft pick of the Cardinals, is ahead of such players as Jim Taylor, Ricky Williams, Earnest Byner, Roger Craig and Herschel Walker.
Jones entered the game sixth in the league in rushing this season. Durability has been a key to his success. Thursday’s game was his 67th straight start, the longest active streak among NFL running backs.
Keyplays: Marshawn Lynch scored on a 15-yard run to put the Bills ahead, 10-6. New York countered with a 31-yard field goal to make it 10-9. The Jets got a 13-yard TD catch from Braylon Edwards to go up, 16-10.
