American Conference
Pittsburgh Steelers: Lost left guard Chris Kemoeatu for at least a couple of weeks with a sprained knee ligament, and backup quarterback Charlie Batch, out for possibly for the rest of the regular season with a left wrist injury. He may need surgery later this week. Ben Roethlisberger also has a possible concussion. He underwent tests, but the Steelers did not sign an experienced quarterback on Monday—likely, a sign they expect him to play in Baltimore.
Cleveland Browns: Embattled coach Eric Mangini questioned whether Detroit’s defensive players faked injuries to slow down the Browns’ no-huddle offense, which racked up a season-high 439 yards during a 38-37 loss. Mangini didn’t flatly accuse the Lions of cheating, but noted the high number of players who were helped from the field—only to return. Mangini’s suggestion of foul play was rebuffed by Lions coach Jim Schwartz. “He’s way out of bounds on that,” Schwartz said. “That couldn’t be further from the truth.”
New York Jets: Rex Ryan is going on the offensive for the Jets. That means rookie QB Mark Sanchez will be hearing a lot more from his head coach from now on. “I need to be more of the game manager than probably what I even realized before,” Ryan said Monday.
National Conference
St. Louis Rams: QB Marc Bulger will be sidelined three to six weeks with a fractured left leg sustained in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The team said it would not place Bulger on injured reserve.
Arizona Cardinals: Coach Ken Whisenhunt says he had a long talk with Kurt Warner on the flight home, and the quarterback was “very upbeat and alert” following a blow to the head in Sunday’s’ victory over St. Louis. Still, Warner’s availability to play Sunday at Tennessee will depend on how he does in the mandatory “baseline test” of his cognitive functions.
Washington Redskins: Add Ladell Betts, Chad Rinehart and Eddie Williams to the injured reserve list. They were hurt Sunday in the loss to Dallas.
