Sometimes an athlete’s biggest wins don’t come on the playing field. Ask Buffalo Bandits’ forward Shawn Williams.

A Bandits spokesman confirmed a report that the Lymphoma affecting Williams’ eight-year-old son, Tucker, has been called “in remission” by doctors.

The Bandits rallied around the Williams family as a team and as an organization in a variety of ways this past season. Players often wore “braver than brave” shirts in a show of support. The team had a “Tucker Out Lymphoma Night” in early April.

The Bandits saw their season end on Saturday night with a loss to the Rochester Knighthawks. The finals begin this Saturday in Calgary as the Roughnecks host the Knighthawks.
