CANTON, Ohio — The buzz from Saturday's Hall of Fame induction ceremony wore off

quickly for Buffalo Bills fans at Fawcett Stadium on Sunday night.

The Bills' starters fell behind, 14-0, to the Titans' starters after the first 14 minutes of

the Hall of Fame Game. The Titans went on to score a 21-18 victory before a crowd of 22,153.

On the positive side, Terrell Owens caught two passes for 27 yards in a nine-play debut

for the Bills, no Bills starting players sustained any injuries and the Bills' white throwback

jerseys looked sharp.

Bills quarterback Trent Edwards also played just nine plays. Operating out of the no-

huddle offense, he marched the Bills 49 yards before throwing an interception near the goal

line.

Edwards was happy with the crispness the offense showed before the turnover.

"I thought we started off really well," he said. "I think we hit the ground running. We

had a great tempo to our offense, converted on a couple third downs there."

The pickoff came on a throw that was high and wide for Lee Evans near the goal line.

"I just missed Lee on that in route, that's on me," Edwards said. "The play came in late.

My footwork was off. That's just a process of not going through your reads right and not being

comfortable with the play. And (it's) just a matter of knowing when to check the ball down and

knowing when to force it into coverage. Obviously that was a time when I needed to get the

ball down to my back."

The Bills' offense ran the no-huddle attack the entire game.

"I loved it," Edwards said. "I really liked our tempo. I think we put a lot of pressure on

the defense. If you look at that second play where I hit Terrell on the slant, I don't think

their defensive line was set. So that's kind of the up-tempo offense we really want to run

here. I know our head coach really wants to catch them off balance."

The Bills' special teams gave up the first Titans' touchdown, allowing Tennessee punter A.J.

Trapasso to score on a 40-yard fake punt scamper into the end zone. The Bills' defensive

starters played two series and gave up a 73-yard touchdown drive on the Titans' second

possession.

The Titans looked every bit like the team that opened last season with 10 straight wins

and finished at 13-3, best in the AFC.

Quarterback Kerry Collins, a 15th-year veteran, completed 7 of 10 passes for 82 yards in

two series.

"We executed our offense and played fast out there," Collins said. "We converted a few

third downs, which was a good thing, and made some plays in the passing game."

The Titans held a 21-6 lead at the half. The Bills pulled within 12 on a 52-yard field

goal by Rian Lindell in the third quarter. Then they drew within five when Reggie Corner

intercepted a pass from Tennessee fourth-stringer Alex Mortensen and returned it 26 yards for

a touchdown. That came with 9:36 left. The Titans took a safety on the last play from

scrimmage in order to run out the clock.

Bills third-string QB Gibran Hamdan hit 11 of 13 passes for 89 yards. Bills No. 4 running

back Xavier Omon had a good night, rushing 11 times for 36 yards and catching 25 yards in

passes.

The Titans' trick play capped the opening drive of the game.

Tennessee moved 34 yards to the Bills' 40 but were forced to send out the punt team on a

fourth-and-10 situation. Trapasso, a rookie filling in for veteran Craig Hentrich, swung his

leg as if to punt but put the ball behind his back as Bills rushers leapt to make a block.

Trapasso scampered around left end, found wide open turf and made it to the end zone.

The Titans' second drive was more impressive. They took 11 plays and 5:07 to reach the end

zone.

The key plays included: a 19-yard pass from Collins to Justin Gage on a third-and-15

situation; a 15-yard rollout pass from Collins to Nate Washington to convert a third-and-1

play; and a 16-yard run by second-year man Chris Johnson to the Bills' 8.

The Titans then brought in power back LenDale White, a 235-pounder, and he ran 5 and 3

yards to get the Titans into the end zone. The score with 1:48 left in the quarter made it

14-0.

The Bills' starting offense moved the ball 49 yards on its one and only drive before a

turnover ended the march.

On the second play, Edwards beat a Titans blitz and found Owens on a quick slant to the

left for a 16-yard gain. After Marshawn Lynch ran around left tackle for 11 yards, Edwards

found Owens again for 11 yards on an out pattern to the right sideline.

Owens got good separation on cornerback Nick Harper.

Edwards scrambled for 8 yards against a five-man Titans rush to convert a third-and-3

situation and give the Bills a first down at the Titans' 28. However, two plays later Edwards

was looking for Evans but the throw got away from him, sailing high and inside. Titans safety

Michael Griffin picked it off at the 3-yard line and lateraled to linebacker Keith Bullock,

who returned it 24 yards.

Edwards finished 3 of 4 for 34 yards. Backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick drove the Bills

41 yards to a field goal with 5:09 left in the second quarter. The Bills had a first-and-goal

situation at the Titans' 3 but were forced to settle for a 20-yard kick by Rian Lindell.

Tennessee got another score after a fumbled punt by the Bills' Bruce Hall set the Titans up at

the Bills' 37. It took Titans second-string quarterback Vince Young six plays to get into the

end zone. Tennessee went for it on fourth and 2 from the Buffalo 29. Chris Henry He threw a 5-

yard TD strike to Paul Williams with 37 seconds left in the half.

Fitzpatrick threw a 23-yard screen pass to Omon and the Bills got 15 more yards on a

late-hit foul after the play to get in position for a 47-yard Lindell field goal on the last

play of the half.
