The billboard: A daily dose from camp - Levitre signs
Updated: August 21, 2010, 8:25 AM
PITTSFORD — Second-round draft pick Andy Levitre reached an agreement on a four-year contract with the Bills on Sunday. That leaves three draft picks — Aaron Maybin, Eric Wood and Jairus Byrd — unsigned. The deal is believed to be worth roughly $3.6 million with about $1.8 million guaranteed.
Levitre, a 6-foot-2, 305-pounder from Oregon State, is the prospective starter at left
guard. He played left tackle for the Beavers and was All-Pac 10 both on the field and in the
classroom.
"He's the complete package," said Levitre's agent, Leo Goeas of Colorado, who spent eight
seasons in the NFL. "He is extremely smart. I think in their offense, with a lot of no-huddle
being used, calls are changing on the line of scrimmage quickly, and you have to be a smart
guy in that type of system. ... From a physical standpoint, Andy is a blue-collar, hard
worker. He likes to mix it up in the trenches. You don't see him on the ground much because he
plays with great balance."
The 3-4 factor
During walk-through sessions of practice, the Bills' offense is running plays against a 3-4
defensive front. All the AFC East teams play the 3-4 defense.
Said coach Dick Jauron: "It's difficult to ask our defense to go into a live practice and
run a 3-4 when that's not really what they run. We're doing a lot in our walk-through periods
to make sure we're prepared for [Monday Night Football] against the Patriots because we need
to be ready and be hitting the ground running.
"So that's kind of what we're doing right now. We'll face a couple of 3-4s I think in the
preseason [Green Bay and Pittsburgh]. But we all work on it every day."
Sideline views
Lee Evans made the catch of the day, a 40-yard leaping grab between Leodis McKelvin and Donte
Whitner near the goal line. ... Defensive tackle Kyle Williams penetrated well in the morning
session. Ko Simpson had an interception. Marcus Buggs forced a fumble after a completion. ...
It was a virtual full house in the afternoon at Growney Stadium. ... Running back Justise
Hairston, a former Central Connecticut standout, suffered a knee injury in the walk-through
portion before Saturday's practice and is expected to be out for the season. ... Defensive
tackle Marcus Stroud will miss several days with a tweaked hamstring.

T.O. today
Terrell Owens caught a couple of more long TDs on Sunday, and it was a long day in coverage
for McKelvin. Owens got wide open down the left sideline early in the day. Then he got behind
McKelvin for a 40-yard strike. In the afternoon Owens ran a short hitch, pivoted and raced
free down the sideline when McKelvin slipped to the ground.
Quote of the Day
"Terrell is kind of like a Hollywood NFL player, so the people love him."
— Running back Dominic Rhodes on Owens.
