INDIANAPOLIS — It had been weeks since the Buffalo Bisons scored more than four runs in a game and more than a month since they had a four-run inning.

One might say they were due to break out, and they did just that Saturday night at Victory Field.

The Bisons put up a four spot in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie en route to a 6-3 triumph over the Indianapolis Indians. Andy Green’s three-run triple did the most damage in the inning, as the six runs are the most the Herd has scored in a game since beating Rochester, 8-3, on July 4.

Buffalo hadn’t scored more than four runs in a game since scoring five in a pair of contests on July 5 — a span of 16 games. The Bisons hadn’t scored four runs in an inning since a June 19 win at Charlotte.

That changed as a pair of fielding errors by the Indians opened the door for the Herd to score as many runs in the fifth as the team had in its previous three games.

The run support proved to be more than enough for Bisons starter Lance Broadway (3-6), who struck out five and scattered six hits in seven innings to secure the Herd’s second win in seven games. Green finished 3 for 5 and scored two runs.

The series continues this afternoon (2 p. m., Radio 1520 AM) with Tobi Stoner (2-4) pitching for Buffalo against Indy’s Ian Snell (2-1).

In other Bisons’ news, the Herd lost two pitchers Saturday. As expected, lefty Jonathon Niese was recalled to the New York Mets to start Saturday night’s 10-3 victory in Houston, where he pitched seven innings and got the win. The Mets made room for him by placing Gary Sheffield on the disabled list.

The Bisons said right-handed closer Brandon Knight has been released from his contract, as the 33- year-old intends on pitching in the Korean Baseball Organization. Knight went 4-9 with a 5.06 ERA and three saves.
