PITTSFORD — One of the advantages of the Bills playing in the Hall of Fame Game is they were able to start training camp a week early. That's why it is important, coach Dick Jauron said, for the unsigned rookies to get their contracts done and report to camp.

First-round picks Aaron Maybin and Eric Wood have yet to sign, neither have second-round

picks Jairus Byrd and Andy Levitre. Tight end Shawn Nelson, a fourth-round pick out of

Southern Mississippi, signed Friday evening and reported to camp for Saturday afternoon's

session at St. John Fisher.

"They need to be here," Jauron said. "That being said, I understand all the things that go

into negotiations on both sides but they need to be here. They'll miss work that will be hard

to make up. ... We'd love to have them here and they're missing a great deal of work."

Boosting sales

During warm-ups, a fan yelled at Terrell Owens that he wanted his jersey and T.O., ever the

businessman smiled and responded, "We've got plenty of 'em in the pro shop."

Sharp at the start

Quarterback Trent Edwards was a perfect 10 for 10 during seven-on-seven passing drills during

the afternoon session and 10 for 15 in 11-on-11. His first pass during 11-on-11 drills was

picked off by Donte Whitner and he was "sacked" once by defensive end Aaron Schobel, who

trash-talked about it with running back Marshawn Lynch afterward.

Sideline views

The Bills worked out without pads Saturday and will do it again today for the double session,

which is a common practice under Jauron. ... Defensive tackle Marcus Stroud suffered what

appeared to be a minor leg injury during conditioning drills in the afternoon session. He

didn't return. ... Defensive end Ryan Denney was poked in the eye but after a brief trip to

the locker room returned to practice. ... First-year running back Justise Hairston suffered a

minor injury during the morning and didn't return for the rest of the day. ... Jauron's

daughter, Amy, is a summer intern in the Bills' media relations office. Asked if her father

had any juice to get her hired, Chris Jenkins, the team's director of media relations smiled

and said, "Coach wanted her to go through the interview process just like everyone else. I

even called one of her college professors for a reference." Amy is a student at Marquette

University.

Directions

From Buffalo take the Thruway to Exit 47. Take Route 490 East for 25 miles to Exit 25

(Fairport Road — 31F). Turn right or left and follow signs to fan parking. Shuttle buses

take fans from the nearby lots to the practice fields. The lots are at Pittsford-Mendon High

School today. Starting Monday the closest lot is at East Rochester High School, south of the

campus on Fairport Road.

Schedule

There are two practices today — 8:30 to 10:25 a.m. and 2:15 to 4:05 p.m. The team

practices from 11 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. Monday. Free tickets are required for the night workout at

7 p.m. Tuesday. They're already sold out.

Quote of the Day

"There's not many players who have 951 catches. There's not many who have scored that many

touchdowns so in that regard, no, he's not a typical veteran. There's no way to dance around

that."

— Dick Jauron on 14-year veteran Owens.
