TORONTO — Move over, Les Bartley. Make way for Darris Kilgour.

Buffalo Bandits coach Kilgour became the all-time leader in coaching wins in the National

Lacrosse League when he won the 94th game of his career, an 11-10 overtime win over the

Toronto Rock before 8,567 in the Air Canada Centre on Friday night.

The late Bartley, who coached both the Bandits and the Rock during his outstanding career,

had 93 wins.

Fittingly, the game-winning goal was scored by John Tavares, who played for both Bartley

and Kilgour in his lacrosse career. Tavares beat goalie Bob Watson at 25 seconds of overtime

to decide matters.

The Buffalo victory was the team's second straight over the leaders of the East Division,

and continued its attempt to climb back into the playoff race. The Bandits improved to 4-6 and

have won three of their last four, including a win over Orlando last week. Toronto fell to

6-5.

Kevin Dostie looked like he'd be the hero in regulation time for the Bandits. He scored his

third goal of the game with 6:10 left to play to give the Bandits a one-goal lead. However,

Garrett Billings scored with two seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Tavares finished with three goals and three assists, while teammate Mark Steenhuis had two

goals and five assists.

The Bandits started the game with a great deal of energy. Buffalo allowed the first goal

and then scored the next four to take a 4-1 lead after a period. Steenhuis, Dostie, Tom

Montour (short-handed) and Mike Accursi had the Bandits goals.

When Dostie scored again early in the second period Rock coach Troy Cordingley decided to

pull goalie Steve Dietrich in favor of Bob Watson.

The move gave the Rock a booster shot of momentum. Toronto outscored Buffalo, 5-2, in the

rest of the period to cut the Bandits' lead to 7-6 at the half. The contest stayed tight the

rest of the way.

The Bandits get right back to work tonight. They will be in Boston to play the Blazers

(7:30 p.m., Radio 1520 AM).
