Portland Pirates GM denies move to Albany
Updated: August 21, 2010, 9:42 AM
PORTLAND, Maine — Portland Pirates fans continue to be
in limbo about whether the American Hockey League franchise
will be leaving Maine's largest city. The Pirates are affiliated with the Buffalo Sabres.
CEO/Managing Owner Brian Petrovek denied reports that the
franchise is destined for Albany. His announcement
Tuesday came after Bob Berber, general manager of the Times
Union Center in Albany, told a newspaper that he expects to
have a signed deal with Petrovek in seven to 10 days.
Petrovek insists to the Portland Press Herald that he
remains in negotiations with county officials for a lease
extension at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
