The Buffalo Bills' coaching staff is taking on an experienced appearance.

The team confirmed the signing of Bruce DeHaven as special teams coach and George Cortez as quarterbacks coach on Monday. Also added to the staff was Stan Hixon as receivers coach and Adrian White as defensive quality control coach.

DeHaven, 61, is a veteran of 23 NFL seasons and spent 13 with the Bills from 1987 to 1999. Cortez, 58, brings 30 years of coaching experience to the Bills. He spent 18 seasons in the Canadian Football League, most recently as offensive coordinator of the Calgary Stampeders. Hixon, 52, enters his 30th year in coaching. He spent the last six as receivers coach of the Washington Redskins.

"Things are coming along well with the staff at this point," head coach Chan Gailey said. "Time is not as important as getting it right and we feel really good about the coaches that we have right now."

The Bills' staff is almost complete. Yet to be named are defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, perhaps another linebackers coach and a strength and conditioning coach. However, veteran aide Bob Sanders, the defensive line coach on last year's Bills' staff, will be back to fill one of those defensive posts. His role has yet to be defined.

White, 45, was retained as defensive quality control aide, a post he held the last two years.

Sanders has 30 years of coaching experience, the last nine in the NFL. Defensive backs coach George Catavolos, retained from Dick Jauron's staff, has 40 years of coaching experience, 25 in the NFL.

Cortez was on the staff of four Grey Cup championship teams in Calgary (1992, 1998, 2001 and 2008). Cortez also spent four years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of California from 2002-2005, where he aided in the development of first round NFL draft picks Aaron Rodgers and Kyle Boller.

Prior to joining the Redskins, Hixon spent 24 years coaching at the collegiate level. He coached at Louisiana State from 2000 to 2003, where he served as associate head coach in addition to wide receivers coach and was part of the Tigers' 2003 national championship team.

DeHaven was special teams coach in Seattle from 2007 to 2009, in Dallas from 2003 to 2006 and in San Francisco from 2000 to 2002.

"I am very excited to come back to Buffalo," DeHaven said. "It was my family's home for 13 years and we have been traveling around the country for the last 10 and feels like we are coming home. I was fortunate enough to be a part of some of the greatest years in Buffalo Bills history and I am looking forward to trying to reprise that era."

Meanwhile, Alex Van Pelt, the Bills' offensive coordinator in 2009, was signed as quarterbacks coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Van Pelt was quarterbacks coach in Buffalo in 2008 and was a Bills offensive assistant for three years before that.
