KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An argument ensued in the Buffalo Bills locker room over what happened on the last play of the game, an interception in the end zone by safety George Wilson.

Wilson claimed he got to the ball first. But safety Jairus Byrd said he had his hands on

it before Wilson's. Several other players got into the fray as Wilson and Byrd defended their

position.

Wilson boasted about having better leaping ability when someone shouted, "Get some hops,

Byrd!"

The rookie was undeterred in his version of what happened. "We'll see when we watch the

tape," he bellowed as players erupted in laughter over the good-natured dispute.

"As you can see, we're very competitive in our room," Wilson said with a grin. "But at the

end of the day, we made the play."

It was a day of big plays for the Bills' defense, which turned Sunday's game against the

Kansas City Chiefs into a pick party.

Four interceptions, all in the second half, sealed a 16-10 victory for the Bills.

Buffalo was one of the worst teams in the NFL last season at stealing passes from the

opposition, finishing with just 10 interceptions. The Bills have 25 this year, which leads the

league.

The Bills' season total is the ninth-most in franchise history and the most since 1975 when

the team had 25.

"[Defensive backs coach] George Catavolos does a great job with those guys," Bills coach

Perry Fewell said. "This group of DBs, they show up on Monday nights and they study. They come

in on Tuesday night, they come in on Wednesday. They get together and they know their game

plan. I think that's a tribute to those guys. They want this. They want to be a good

secondary."

"I believe we have one of the top secondaries in the league as far as talent," said Byrd,

whose NFL-high ninth interception broke the Bills' 50-year-old rookie record held by Archie

Matsos. "We've had injuries, but we have guys with a knowledge of the game and they just

compete in everything they do."

And being so competitive, everyone wants in on the action when so many balls go up for

grabs as they have been this season.

"It was a situation where everybody did a great job getting their hands on balls," said

cornerback Terrence McGee, who got his first interception of the season. "The guys just made

plays when they needed to make them."

Sunday was the Bills' third four-interception game this season. More important was when the

interceptions occurred. The last three picks came on the Chiefs' last three possessions, when

they were driving.

"I thought they came up with the turnovers when they had to come up with the turnovers,"

Fewell said. "I thought they hung in there and fought hard. I was very proud of them. They

were very determined today to get a victory."

Middle linebacker Paul Posluszny got the first critical interception when he grabbed a

tipped pass near midfield. His 17-yard return helped set up Rian Lindell's 36-yard field goal.

Byrd might have had the biggest interception of the day. On fourth-and-10 from the Bills'

21-yard line, Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel fired a throw to receiver Chris Chambers. But

linebacker Bryan Scott got a hand on the ball and it fell into Byrd's hands.

"In the right place at the right time," Byrd said.

And of course, Wilson hauled in Cassel's last-gasp throw in the end zone with no time left.

Or did Byrd let Wilson have it?

"[Byrd] wasn't for sure if I was a receiver on the opposing team," Wilson said. "We

actually both had the ball when we hit the ground. He's jerking and I'm jerking. Then I yelled

his name and he let it go. But we were both in position. That's the positive right there. It

was a great way to cap off a defensive performance."
