Drayton Florence is doing his talking on the field this season, and his performance says

he is rehabilitating his career.

The seventh-year cornerback played another solid game for the Bills in Sunday's victory

over Miami. He had a key pass defense on a long bomb for Dolphins speedster Ted Ginn in the

fourth quarter, then he picked off his first pass of the season to help clinch the victory.

"He's done a great job, especially in [Sunday's] game," said cornerback Terrence McGee. "He

really challenged the receivers, got in their face. He got his hands on the ball a lot."

Florence doesn't like to talk in the media and declined to speak after the Bills' walk-

through session on Monday. However, he's not shy about talking on the field.

"He's a vocal guy," said linebacker Bryan Scott. "He talks trash amongst players. He's a

competitive guy. And he's played well the last few weeks. The hard work he puts in off the

field is showing on the field."

Florence has proved to be one of the better offseason pickups by the Bills. He has started

eight straight games at right cornerback since Leodis McKelvin went out for the season.

Florence came to Buffalo with something to prove. He was cut by Jacksonville just one year

after signing a big, six-year contract. He didn't meet the Jaguars' expectations, and they

moved on.

He has found Buffalo to be a better fit.

"He's a ballplayer, he's a pro," Scott said. "He works hard at everything he does, in

practice and in games."

Florence used textbook technique on the bomb to Ginn, Miami's fastest player. He used

outside leverage, staying to the outside of the receiver, and ran stride for stride on Ginn's

hip. Then he batted away the pass from Chad Henne with his right hand. Then Florence almost

had an interception on a deep throw for Brian Hartline two plays later.

On the series after Buffalo took a 17-14 lead, Florence was in the right place at the right

time. He was covering Hartline again, and Henne's pass was well overthrown due to a hit put on

him by Chris Kelsay. Florence made a leaping pickoff. A play later, Terrell Owens caught a

51-yard TD pass.

The play before the pickoff, Florence showed his discipline by covering Ricky Williams on

an option run play wide to the defense's left. That forced quarterback Pat White to keep the

ball and turn upfield, where he was tackled for a 2-yard gain.

All in all, it was an outstanding quarter for Florence.

"He uses his experience," Scott said. "He's just a pro."

. . .

The Bills announced that Thursday's game against the New York Jets officially is a sellout

and the local television blackout will be lifted.

It's believed that the Rogers Corp., the Bills' partners in the staging of the game,

purchased at least several thousand tickets to ensure the game would not be blacked out.

However, Rogers officials have declined to say how many tickets had been sold.

The Bills will practice today in Orchard Park then leave for Toronto on Wednesday and hold

a walk-through practice in the Rogers Centre.

Thursday's nationally televised game on Ch. 7 starts at 8:20 p.m.

. . .

Sunday's win was the Bills' fifth straight against Miami in Orchard Park.

Ryan Fitzpatrick's 31-yard rushing TD was the longest by a Bills QB in team history,

eclipsing a 26-yard run by Jack Kemp at Houston in 1966. It was the longest rush by a Bills QB

since a 32-yarder by Doug Flutie in 2000.

Terrell Owens became the 24th active player in the NFL to hit 200 career games played.

Rian Lindell now is 16 of 26 in his career on field-goal tries of 50 or more yards. Nine of

those made kicks are with the Bills. Steve Christie has the team record of 12 successful

50-plus kicks.
