St. Bonaventure earned an historic men's soccer win Thursday night in Kingston,

R.I., beating Fordham, 1-0, in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. It's Bona's

first postseason win and enabled the Bonnies to post a double-digit win season for the first

time since 1999.

Chris Leko's header at 60:37 broke a scoreless tie for Bona (10-8). Joe Miller booted the

ball from around midfield after a Rams foul and sent the pass to Leko, who flicked it over the

charging goalkeeper for his first goal of the season. David Flynn made two saves for his sixth

shutout.

Bona plays regular-season champion Dayton at 5 p.m. today in a semifinal matchup.

Steve Bartkowski (Kenmore East), a forward for SUNY Cortland, was named to the All-

SUNYAC Third Team after posting three goals and an assist in 17 games.

Women's basketball

University at Buffalo coach Linda Hill-MacDonald announced the program has signed

Rachel Bantelman (Olean) and Kristen Sharkey to letters of intent. Bantelman is a 5-foot-11

forward who was named Second-Team All-State last year after helping the Huskies reached the

state semifinals. She led Olean in points, rebounds, blocked shouts and steals.

Sharkey is a 6-foot-1 post player who should give UB a physical presence under the boards.
