Bills-Jets report card
Updated: August 21, 2010, 8:53 AM
The News' football writers assign grades for different aspects of the game:
Grading the Bills
Running game
Bills put together a couple of nice drives at start of halves. Took advantage of Jenkins
injury and stuck with it. Jackson stronger as game went on. Grade: C+.
Passing game
Fitzpatrick didn't inspire memories of Frank Reich, but he made a big throw on slant to
Evans for 37-yard touchdown. Where has that been for the last year? Grade: C-.
Run defense
Bills gave up whopping 318 yards. Amazing to think that, after giving up 643 yards in
previous three games, their worst was still ahead. Grade: F.
Pass defense
Another great week in coverage. Sanchez's rating was 8.3, worse than Anderson a week
earlier. Six interceptions most by Bills in a game since 1967. Grade: A+.
Special teams
Lindell made winner, but otherwise another weak effort. Got called for 12 men on the field
on early Jets punt. Veteran Reed made bonehead mistake letting punt hit him. Grade: D.
Coaching
Jauron did poor job of getting Lindell into range at end of regulation. But team didn't
quit and Fewell had solid plan for stopping Sanchez. A win is a win. Grade: B.
Grading the Jets
Running game
Jets had 200 yards midway through the second quarter. Jones busted a 64-yarder for career
long, then topped on next carry with 71-yard TD jaunt. Grade: A+.
Passing game
Sanchez did not complete a pass to a wide receiver until second half. The rookie from USC
doesn't look like an NFL starter right now. Grade: F.
Run defense
Loss of Jenkins late in first half hurt, but didn't allow any big runs and kept Jackson
from getting to the corners. Grade: B.
Pass defense
Knocked Edwards out of the game early and kept Fitzpatrick under constant siege. Evans beat
them for big TD, though. Grade: B.
Special teams
Feely missed first FG attempt after 24 in a row. Bobbled snap on potential game-winning
field goal was a crusher. Penalties hurt. Grade: C-.
Coaching
Ryan's team played with foolish arrogance after taking the lead, which allowed Bills back
into the game. They need to get more out of Sanchez. Grade: C-.
