Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards is seeking out medical opinions to see if soreness in his throwing shoulder is a problem.

The Bills said today they sent Edwards for a routine magnetic resonance imaging test on the right shoulder during his year-end physical because he had complained of soreness in it. It is not considered a serious problem, but further tests will determine if any surgery is necessary. Edwards and the team want to be sure there is no condition that could hinder his offseason conditioning and workouts.

"He did not miss any playing time and there was no lack of strength in his shoulder due to the soreness," according to a statement released by the team. "He has scheduled visits with a couple doctors this week and we will know more at that time."

Edwards missed 2 1/2 games in December due to a strained groin that became a problem in the first half of the loss to San Francisco on Nov. 30. Edwards sat out games against Miami and the New York Jets. He returned for the Bills' 15th game, at Denver, and had a good showing in a 30-23 win. He played the entire way in the Bills' season-ending 13-0 loss to New England.
