Bills-Dolphins report card
Updated: August 21, 2010, 8:46 AM
The News' football writers assign grades for different aspects of the game:
Grading the Bills
Running game
Lynch's return a bust. Had eight carries for 4 yards. Jackson never found rhythm. Dolphins didn't respect passing game and stuffed box. Grade: D.
Passing game
Edwards threw three picks, bringing back memories of Cleveland last year. When teams don't
respect you downfield, they can sit on short routes. Grade: F.
Run defense
Gave up 250 yards, which makes 472 over last two weeks. Offense isn't helping, but "D'
simply isn't good enough at the point of attack. Grade: F.
Pass defense
Got some pressure on Henne, but didn't take the ball away. Cornerbacks played too soft
against ordinary Dolphins receiving corps. Grade: C.
Special teams
Is the halo coming off Bobby April? Another penalty on kickoff return after four
infractions on teams a week earlier. Lindell missed from 49. Grade: C-.
Coaching
Jauron winless in last eight division games. That's continuity for you. What more evidence
does Ralph Wilson need that he isn't good enough? Grade: F.
Grading the Dolphins
Running game
Softened Bills up early with passing game, then pounded away mercilessly for 250 yards and
5.6 a crack. NFL's No. 3 running game looked the part. Grade: A.
Passing game
Henne made the throws he needed to make. Didn't turn the ball over and thoroughly outplayed
Edwards, who looked like the backup. Grade: B-.
Run defense
Crowded the box and made Lynch looked like he was still suspended. No run longer than 9
yards. Third in league against run and looked it. Grade: A.
Pass defense
Six sacks and three picks against Edwards. Terrific game by corners in man to man. Edwards
got spooked and was too quick to check down. Grade: A.
Special teams
Nothing special, but who cares when you're dominating an opponent at the line of scrimmage?
Aren't special teams overrated, anyway? Grade: B.
Coaching
Sparano had Fish motivated to prove they're still better than sorry Bills outfit. Solid,
physical game plan on both sides of the football. Grade: A.
