Rain keeps Herd from double jeopardy
Updated: August 20, 2010, 10:51 PM
ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Rain, rain, go away.
The Buffalo Bisons fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 2-1, Wednesday night, and for the second night in a row were unable to complete a doubleheader because of rain at Coca-Cola Park.
The second game will be made up during the final series of the season when the Bisons visit Allentown again in September. The teams were rained out on Monday night. The game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Tuesday, but only one game was completed. The Herd and Pigs tried to get the makeup in Wednesday but the weather didn’t cooperate.
The teams will close out the series today (10:35 a. m., Radio 1520 AM) before the Bisons return home to open an eight-game home stand against Norfolk and Gwinnett. Buffalo’s Dillon Gee (1-3) goes for his second straight win against Carlos Carrasco (0-2) in the series finale.
In Wednesday night’s loss, the Herd (4-20) got on the board in the first inning. Ramon Martinez singled and then scored on a triple to center by Fernando Martinez.
The lead stood until the fourth when Andy Tracy doubled and scored on David Newhan’s triple to left-center. Rich Thompson singled home the winning run to end it in the bottom of the seventh.
Buffalo starter Tim Redding looked solid in his major league rehab. He threw six innings, allowing six hits and walked one while striking out five.
